Following an interactive and dynamic method, the purpose of this 30-hour course is to equip adult learners with the necessary skills to converse in English confidently in a range of contexts.

The success of speaking begins in small groups, which allows each learner to maximize his or her talking time.

Over 10 weeks, students practice various speaking and writing skills: conversation and composition tasks related to everyday and professional contexts.  Participants who complete this course gain the skills needed to confidently engage in exchanges both in work settings and across daily life.

Following each session, teachers evaluate if students should remain at the same level or move up to the next one. It typically takes 1-2 sessions to advance levels.

Tuition

  • $300 (30 course hours)

A discount of $30 is available to returning students.

Important to note:  The College reserves the right to cancel any cohort, program, course, or service prior to the scheduled start date. In such instances, all refundable fees will be reimbursed in full.

Level evaluation

The Vanier Language School partners with EduSynch, an online language testing platform aligned with CEFR standards. All new part-time students will receive a link inviting them to complete a level evaluation within two weeks of their course start date. The evaluation assesses oral communication competencies and can be completed entirely from home.

Note: a no-show or non-completion of the level evaluation may result in a $30 fee being charged to the student's account.

Level changes

Students who feel they have been placed in the wrong level should do the following:

  1. Speak to their teachers to express their concerns

  2. If the teacher agrees, email the administration to request a level change

Note: level changes are only permitted up until the start of the third class.
